These t-shirts are for people who are comfortable engaging in a dialogue about anxiety. Whether it is about your personal experiences or the topic in general, my hope is that these t-shirts can be a conversation starter between family, friends and strangers. I believe these exchanges have the potential to reduce the fear and stigma that can accompany people with challenging levels of anxiety.
My name is Brian Rougeau. Since the early 2000’s I have been experiencing moderate to challenging levels of anxiety which mostly surfaced shortly after the passing of my parents. Since that time I’ve had varying levels of success managing it but over time, I’ve come to understand that for me, it is a process of try and try again.
I have learned that a productive way to transform my anxious thoughts is to employ art-making and writing. This project is a result of those two things.
The short phrases or coping statements you see on the t-shirts have helped me manage anxious moments, while the illustrations are either an expression of the experience of anxiety or oftentimes, simply the product of using art-making as therapy. Having these outlets to channel my nervous energy has been life-changing. I hope that this work resonates with you too.
